The importance of website usability...

"If something is hard to use I don't use it as much."

A obvious statement perhaps, and one that few would disagree with, but despite this many websites are failing their users with extremely poor usability in the form of inefficient site structure, poor functionality & general navigational stumbling blocks.

The statistics speak for themselves!

  • More than 83% of Internet users are likely to leave a web site if it takes too many clicks to find what they're looking for. (source: Arthur Andersen)
  • 58% of visitors experiencing usability problems on a web site don't return. (source: Forrester Research)
  • 60% of the time, users fail to find the information they're seeking on a web site due to usability issues. (source: User Interface Engineering)
  • $25 billion is lost every year due to web site usability issues. (source: Zona Research)
  • The average e-commerce site could increase its sales by an astonishing 79% with a usability redesign. (source: Jakob Nielson)

Remote usability testing

Remote usability testing is an excellent technique used to conduct interface evaluations with participants remaining in their own environment (office or home). By using screen sharing software, or even remote control applications, usability experts are able to observe the participant navigating the site at a distance.
